Articles and essays:

My essay about European astronomers working in Chile during the Pinochet regime was first published in the New York Times and included in the Best American Science and Nature Writing 2014 anthology.

An essay I wrote about my application for German citizenship was published in the Scottish Review of Books.

My essay ‘A random walk between Germany and Scotland’ is included in the anthology A Place They Called Home, published by Berlinica.

My article in the Independent explores the link between literature and Einstein’s general theory of relativity. I also wrote a Q&A for the Guardian on the same subject.

My article in The Scotsman is about my personal experiences of being an astronomer and how it feels to do this sort of work, standing on a mountaintop staring at the sky.

Book reviews:

I regularly review for the Times Literary Supplement and the BBC Sky at Night magazine as well as other publications:

‘Wonders of the Night Sky’ by Bob King in the Sky at Night

‘The Emergence of the Fourth Dimension’ by Mark Blacklock in the TLS

‘Hidden Figures’ by Margot Lee Shetterly in the Sky at Night

‘The Ghost: A Cultural History’ by Susan Owens in the TLS

’15 Million Degrees: A Journey to the Heart of the Sun’ by Lucie Green in The Spectator

‘The Sky’s Dark Labyrinth’ trilogy by Stuart Clark on Lablit

My essay about solar eclipses in literature was broadcast on 22 March 2015, on Radio 4’s ‘Open Book’ (appropriately just after a solar eclipse).

My three poems in the anthology of new Scottish poetry; Be The First To Like This are on Scottish Poetry Library’s  soundcloud stream.
